WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team (6-0) set a school single-game scoring record under the lights of Gordon Field tonight, outscoring Newbury College (1-3) by a 13-0 margin. The Judges' previous record for goals in a game was established in a 12-0 win over Mass. Maritime in 1986. Their only other 10-goal game was in 1977.
Brandeis scored five times in the first half with their starters and top reserves in the contest. Sophomore Joe Eisenbies (Hingham, Mass./Hingham) had a pair of assists and a goal in the first 45 minutes. His cross to senior Steve Keuchkarian (Watertown, Mass./ Watertown) in the 10th minute was all the Judges needed to secure the victory. Other first-half highlights included a diving header by sophomore Matt Peabody (Brunswick, Maine) on a cross by junior Luke Teece (Tucson, Ariz./University) and a blast from senior Stephen Kostel (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) just before the half that was his first career goal.
In the second half, rookie Nick George (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) and junior Alexander Farr (Nahant, Mass./St. Johns Prep) each recorded hat tricks. Farr's goals came at 62:25, 65:35 and 66:38, a span of just four minutes and 13 seconds, making it the fastest hat trick in Brandeis history and the sixth-fastest in NCAA Division III history. He broke the previous Brandeis record of 7:35 for a hat trick set by Ben Premo '08 in 2005.
Brandeis outshot Newbury by a 52-2 margin. The Nighthawks' William McNally (Grafton, Mass./Marian) made several impressive stops among his 12 saves in just under 52 minutes of play.
With their sixth-straight win, Brandeis matches their longest winning streak since the 2000 season. Six in a row to start the season is the best since 1985, when they won 14 straight at the start of the campaign. The Judges are off until next Wednesday when they head to Cambridge to take on MIT at 4 p.m., while Newbury heads to Nashua, N.H., next Tuesday to face Rivier College at 7 p.m.
