WALTHAM, Mass.- On a wet and rainy day at Gordon field, Brandeis' sophomore midfielder Kyle Feather (Pinebrook, N.J./ Montville Township) scored the game winning goal, his fifth of the year and tied for the team lead, in a 2-1 victory over the University of Chicago, propelling the Judges to their first University Athletic Association win.  Brandeis improved to 8-3-1 (1-1-1 UAA) on the season while the Maroons fell to 5-5-2 (0-3 UAA).

This hotly contested UAA match between the Brandeis Judges and Chicago Maroons featured awful weather in the form of a constant downpour that resulted in a slick turf field and some sloppy play by both sides. By the end of the match Chicago had compiled 17 fouls and two yellow cards while Brandeis racked up 11 fouls and three yellow cards.

The Judges broke through first in the 4th minute as senior forward Steve Keuchkarian (Watertown, Mass./ Watertown) flicked the ball masterfully into the box for junior midfielder Sam Ocel (No. Attleboro, Mass./ No. Attleboro). Ocel timed his run onto the flick perfectly and, from about the penalty area, blasted a hard right-footed shot into the left corner of the net to give the Judges a 1-0 lead on his fourth goal of the season.

The Maroons responded in the 21st minute when rookie midfielder Nick Codispoti (Rockville Centre., N.Y./ Chaminade) slid a ball across the 18 past Brandeis' diving junior goalkeeper Blake Minchoff (Fiskdale, Mass./ Tantasqua Reg.) to the foot of senior midfielder Alan Pikna (Wauwatosa, Wis./ West) who finished with a touch into the empty net, knotting the match at one for his fourth goal of the year.

In the end it was the Judges' sophomore defender Ben Applefield (Avon, Conn./ Avon) who made a terrific run down the left side of the field resulting in a perfect cross to the feet of Feather. He rocketed a hard shot on the ground past Chicago's diving rookie goalkeeper Elek Lane (Eau Claire, Wis./ Memorial) for a 2-1 lead in the 57th minute that secured Brandeis their first UAA victory of the season.

Brandeis goalie Minchoff finished the match with four saves and one goal allowed while Chicago goalie Lane finished with three saves and two goals allowed.            The Brandeis Judges will have another UAA Conference matchup versus Washington University on Sunday, October 16th at 11:00 am at Gordon Field. The Chicago Maroons also face another UAA contest at NYU on Sunday, October 16th at 11:00 am.
