WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University rookie midfielder Tyler Savonen (Orleans, Mass./Nauset Regional) scored two goals in his second collegiate start tonight as the Judges defeated local rival Lasell College, 3-0, in non-conference men's soccer action. With the win, the Judges improve to 10-4-1 and secure their second-straight 10-win season, while the Lasers fall to 9-5-3 on the campaign.

Brandeis got the only goal they would need in the 27th minute. Less than two minutes after he stepped onto the field, senior forward Alexander Farr (Nahant, Mass./St. Johns Prep) was on the receiving end of a beautiful through ball from junior midfielder Sam Ocel (No. Attleboro, Mass./No. Attleboro) down the left side of the field. Farr one-touched the ball past a charging Lasell netminder into the right side of the net for his first game-winner of the season and fourth goal overall in 2011. With the score, Farr moves into 21st place on the Judges' career scoring list with 48 career points and 16th place with 22 career goals. Farr needs just one more goal to become the 20th player in Brandeis history with 50 career points. Brandeis outshot the Lasers, 12-5, in the first half and took the 1-0 lead into the break.

Savonen was the offensive star in the second half, scoring his two goals in the 54th and 63rd minutes. He is now tied for the team lead with six goals on the season and atop the scoring list with 16 points. His first goal of the evening came at the 53:41 mark off some nifty passing. Ocel started the play by sending a ball to the corner, where senior midfielder Theo Terris (Concord, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) crossed it through the box to the waiting head of Savonen. With his two assists on the night, Ocel tied for the Judges' lead with six on the campaign. Savonen's second goal came at the 62:06 mark after he took a corner kick. The ball deflected back to him outside the box, and his chip back in slipped through the Laser keeper's hands for the final goal of the game.

Brandeis outshot Lasell, 20-1, in the second half and 32-6 for the game. The Judges put 14 shots on net to the Lasers' one. Lasell rookie Aren Moorman (Somerset, N.J.) made three saves and allowed one goal in the first half, while classmate Alex Serrazina (Ludlow, Mass./Cathedral) had six stops and let in two goals. The visitors also had two balls cleared off the line by defenders. Brandeis junior Blake Minchoff (Fiskdale, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) need to make just one first-half save to earn his ninth shutout of the season. He needs just one more clean sheet to lead the Judges to only the fourth season with 10 shutouts in school history.

Brandeis returns to action with a UAA contest next Friday evening at 5:00 p.m. at Emory University in Atlanta, while Lasell prepares for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinals Saturday at Norwich University at 1:30 p.m.
