ATLANTA, Ga. -- The visiting Brandeis University men's soccer team outshot host Emory University by a 22-10 margin, including 15-5 in the second half, but it was the Eagles who scored the game's only goal in the 60th minute to take a 1-0 decision in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest this evening. With the win, the Judges fall to 10-5-1, 1-3-1 in the UAA, while the Eagles improve to 9-7, 3-2 UAA.

Brandeis was paced by the junior duo of Sam Ocel (No. Attleboro, Mass./No. Attleboro) and Lee Russo (Westford, Mass./Westford Acad.), who each registered five shots, giving the pair as many as the entire Emory roster combined. Ocel led the Judges with two shots on goal, while Russo suffered some hard luck, twice hitting the crossbar. He drew iron first in the 15th minute and again with the first shot of the second half.

Emory got a fine performance in net from sophomore Andrew Goldblum, who made seven stops. It marked the second time this season an opposing UAA goalie has made at least seven saves against the Judges.

The hosts' lone goal came five minutes after Goldblum stoned Brandeis sophomore Kyle Feather (Pinebrook, N.J./Montville Township), who pushed the rebound wide after the initial save. The Eagles showed some nifty passing, as Andrew Jones made a pass through the box to Zach Daniels, who crossed the ball to David Garofalo's head. Garofalo buried his first goal of the season past Brandeis junior Blake Minchoff (Fiskdale, Mass./Tantasqua Regional). Brandeis took 10 of their 22 shots after the goal was scored, but Goldblum made two saves to preserve the shutout. Minchoff made two saves in the losing effort.

Both teams return to action on Sunday morning, when the Judges take on Carnegie Mellon in Pittburgh at 11 a.m. and the Eagles host NYU at the same time.
