WALTHAM, Mass. — Nine players scored points and three of them were involved in more than one goal tonight as the Brandeis University men's soccer team routed visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology, 6-0, in a non-conference showdown on Gordon Field. With the win, the Judges – ranked #25 in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and #9 by D3soccer.com – improve to 8-1. The Leopards fall to 1-7 with their second-straight loss.

Brandeis was led by junior forward Tyler Savonen (Orleans, Mass./Nauset Regional), who scored the team's second and fifth goals on the night. It was the second multi-goal game of his career. With his four points, Savonen vaults into the Judges' career top 30 in scoring with 46 points on 17 goals and 12 assists. He is now 27th on Brandeis's points list.

Junior transfer forward Michael Soboff (Framingham, Mass./Newton South) added a goal and an assist. Soboff scored his first goal since Sept. 1 in the 11th minute for what proved to be his second game-winner. Rookie Evan Jastremski (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) earned the assist on some nifty footwork and a terrific cross that Soboff one-timed into the net. Soboff also assisted Savonen's second goal in the 53rd minute for his second three-point performance of the campaign.

Senior back Ben Applefield (Avon, Conn./Avon) added a pair of assists, working free to feed Savonen across the box in the 25th minute and putting a corner kick onto the head of classmate Sam Ocel (No. Attleboro, Mass./No. Attleboro) in the 35th. Ocel's goal moved him into 12th on Brandeis's career scoring list with 73 points and 14th with 26 goals.

In addition to Savonen's goal in the second half, Brandeis also got a score just 64 seconds earlier by senior Kyle Feather (Ridgewood, N.J./Montville Township). It was Feather's team-leading eighth of the season and the 24th of his career, moving him into 18th on the career scoring list with 58 points. He has now scored in four of the Judges' last five games.

Brandeis's final goal came in the 77th minute, when rookie forward Zach Vieira (Andover, Mass./Brooks School) tallied his first collegiate goal, deflecting home an effort by sophomore Michael Chaput (Holliston, Mass./Holliston).

Shots for the game were relatively close, 18-15, in favor of the hosts, but Brandeis put 10 of those shots on net compared to just one for Wentworth, off the foot of rookie Alec Watkinson (Merrimack, N.H./Merrimack) in the 14th minute. WIT senior Cody Gibb (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset) made four saves and allowed five goals in 72 minutes of work, while sophomore Kevin Pepin (Fairhaven, Mass./Fairhaven) allowed one goal in 18 minutes. Brandeis sophomore Kenn Fryer (Wilmington, Mass./St. John's Prep) had one save for his second win and second shutout of the season.

Brandeis returns to action next Tuesday afternoon at Wheaton College at 4 p.m. Wentworth travels to Endicott for a Commonwealth Coast Conference match Saturday at 3 p.m.
