Atlanta, GA – (taken from the Emory press release) Emory University scored three unanswered goals, and the Eagles held on to their place atop the University Athletic Association (UAA) standings with a 3-1 win over 12th-ranked Brandeis University at the Woodruff Physical Education Center on Sunday afternoon.

The win extended the Eagles' undefeated streak to six games, as Emory improved to 10-3-1 overall for the year. Brandeis dropped to 11-4-0 on the season and to 1-3-0 in UAA play.

Brandeis pushed in front just 21 seconds into the match, as the Judges capitalized off an early throw-in to notch the first goal of the contest.  A throw from about 10 yard away from the end line was able to spring junior Michael Soboff (Framingham, Mass./Newton South) on a one-on-one with the keeper. Soboff would drive towards the goal before laying the ball off to rookie Evan Jastremski (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), who tapped the ball in for his third goal of the year.  Soboff picked up his eighth assist of the campaign on the play, tied for best on the team with senior back Ben Applefield (Avon, Conn./Avon).

Emory evened the match in the 19th minute, taking advantage of a throw-in of its own.  Junior Jeffrey Cochran launched a long throw in front of the goal that found the head of junior Dylan Price, who was able to finish for the goal, his ninth of the season.  Cochran picked up his team-leading seventh assist of the campaign on the play.

Just over eight minutes later, Jason Andrejchak would take advantage of a long run to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.  In the 27th minute of play, he took possession of the ball in the middle third of the field, and cut past a pair of Brandeis defenders to create the scoring opportunity.  The freshman finished the play by beating Brandeis junior Joe Graffy (Concord, N.H./Concord) to the near post with a low, hard shot for his fourth goal of the year.

Price would extend Emory's lead further with his second goal of the contest in the 53rd minute.  The play was setup by senior Andrew Jones, who sent a shot on goal that was smartly saved by Graffy, but the rebound was deflected out to Price, who deposited a rocket into the upper far corner of the goal for his team-leading 10th goal of the campaign.

The 3-1 score would last the rest of the way, as Emory sophomore goalkeeper Abe Hannigan made a career-high six saves in the contest.  Brandeis outshot Emory 14-13 in the game, and both teams finished with seven shots on goal. Graffy made four stops in net for the Judges.

Emory will be back in action on Wednesday as the Eagles take a break from UAA competition and travel to Covenant College. The Judges are off until October 28, when they will travel to Mount Ida.
