NEWTON, Mass. – (from the Mount Ida press release) Despite dominating possession for much of the game, it took a late goal by junior Michael Soboff (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) for Brandeis to break through, earning the Judges a 1-0 victory at Mount Ida College. The Judges are now 12-4 on the season.

Soboff provided the only offense of the night, breaking the deadlock in the 76th minute when he slotted home his fifth goal of the season on the back end of a give-and-go.

Soboff fed rookie Zach Vieira (Andover, Mass./Brooks) on the edge of the box and then made the run himself, receiving the return pass from his teammate, who grabbed his second assist of the season.

Mount Ida had a great chance to tie the game in the waning moments, but a free kick attempt by senior Tim Gil sailed just over the crossbar.

The Judges best chance of the first half came in the 15th minute. Senior Sam Ocel (No. Attleboro, Mass./No. Attleboro) found himself with space in the box, but Mustang rookie making Tyler Grothusen (Ramsey, N.J.) cleared the ball off the line to keep the scores level at the break.

Mount Ida senior Joe Casey (Merrimack, Mass.) flashed his gloves several times in the second half, in which he had five saves, including one on a point-blank attempt by rookie Evan Jastremski (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield). It was Casey's final home match in goal, as the Mustangs celebrated their six graduating seniors in a senior day ceremony before the contest.

Junior goalie Joe Graffy (Concord, N.H./Concord) needed to make just one stop to collect the shutout victory, as Brandeis outshot Mount Ida 19-3 in the contest. The Judges had a 7-1 edge from the corner flag as well.

The men's team will close its season schedule with three home games in the University Athletic Association, Starting with a matchup against Washington University on Friday.
