Lanahan, Edalati earn UAA Player of the Week honors, Sept. 29

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's and women's soccer teams earned two University Athletic Association (UAA) Player of the Week accolades on Monday. For the men's team, junior Conor Lanahan of Avon, Conn., was named UAA Co-Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season. For the women, senior Sapir Edalati of Great Neck, N.Y., was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week for the second time of the season.

Lanahan played a key role during the contest with Babson on Sept. 24th where he led the defense that stifled the Babson offense to only three shots. He also scored his fourth career goal in the 72nd minute, which cemented the win over the regionally ranked rival, Babson 2-0 .

The Brandeis defense is ranked #1 in the conference and #2 in the country. They have only given up two goals all season with a 0.25 goals-against average as of Monday.  

The #4 ranked Brandeis men (9-0-0) are back in action on Sunday, Oct. 5th at 11:00 a.m. against Case Western Reserve (6-3-1) in the first UAA conference match-up.

Edalati scored the only goal of the match on Sept. 27th against 11th ranked Bowdoin in the 79th minute to earn the victory 1-0. This is her 7th career game-winner that helped push the Judges to eight straight victories.

Sapir is ranked #2 in the conference in total goals (6)  and for game-winning goals (3) and #3 for total points (16) and total assists (4).

The #24 ranked Brandeis women (9-1-0) follow the men as they also take on Case Western (5-1-2) on Sunday, Oct. 5th at 1:30p.m. The men look to remain undefeated for the season while the women hope to beat their longest win-streak in Brandeis history.

Lanahan is a 2012 graduate of Avon High School.

Edalati is a 2011 graduate of Great Neck South High School.
