CHICAGO, Ill. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team held the lead with just over 15 minutes to go in regulation, but the Judges couldn't hang on, as the top-ranked University of Chicago Maroons pulled out a 2-1 win 42 seconds into the second overtime period in a University Athletic Association clash tonight. With the loss, the Judges fall to 5-4-3 on the season, 0-1-2 in the UAA. The Maroons improve to 13-0 overall, 3-0 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Brandeis got on the board first in the 25th minute. Senior midfielder Josh Ocel (North Attleboro, Mass./No. Attleboro) ripped a shot that was deflected home by classmate Thales Brito (Malden, Mass./Malden Catholic).
  • The goal was the first of Brito's career.
  • The assist was Ocel's fourth of the season and the 23rd of his career, tied for 7th on Brandeis's career list with three others, including brother Sam '13.
  • Brandeis hung close in shots with UC in the first half, trailing just 5-3 at halftime.
  • The Maroons outshot Brandeis 12-2 in the second half and 5-0 in the overtime sessions.
  • UC tied the game with just under 15 minutes left in regulation when Max Lopez found Brenton-Neal Desai open in the box, Desai buried it in the opposite corner for his fifth of the season.
  • Brandeis hunkered down to force overtime. In the 101st minute, the home team took advantage of defensive lapse, and Chicago made Brandeis pay.
  • Dayo Adeoson dribbled down the middle of the field and beat Brandeis junior Ben Woodhouse (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) for the game-winner, his sixth goal of the season.
  • Woodhouse finished with four saves, Hill Bonin had one stop for UC.

  • The Judges went into overtime for the seventh-straight game and eighth in 12 total contests this season.
