WALTHAM, Massachusetts — The Brandeis University men's soccer team ran its winning streak to four in a row tonight as the Judges scored once in each half to defeat visiting Emory University, 2-0, in a University Athletic Association (UAA) contest on Gordon Field. The Judges improve to 9-4-3 overall on the season, 2-1-2 in the UAA.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brandeis scored both of its goals off headers from set plays thanks to senior midfielder Josh Ocel (No. Attleboro, Mass./Worcester Acad.).
- In the 26th minute, he took a free kick that junior midfielder Christian Hernandez (Revere, Mass./Lawrence Acad.) converted for what proved to be the game-winner.
- In the 76th minute, senior Thales Brito (Malden, Mass./Malden Catholic) got a head on an Ocel corner kick to give the Judges some breathing room.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Judges owned a 12-6 shooting advantage, including 5-0 in the second half.
- The teams were even 4-4 in corner kicks.
- Brandeis junior Ben Woodhouse (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) made two first-half saves to pick up his third-straight shutout and the seventh overall this season.
- Woodhouse now has 15 career clean sheets.
- Emory junior Jake Deueul (Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades) had two stops in the losing effort.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Brandeis won their third straight game against the Eagles.
- The goals for Hernandez and Brito were each the second of their career. Brito has scored twice this year, while Hernandez's goal was his first since the first game of the 2015 season.
- With two more assists, Ocel moved into a tie for the UAA lead with nine. He now has 28 career assists, third on the Judges' all-time list, while his 54 career points are 23rd on the list.
