WALTHAM, Massachusetts — The Brandeis University men's soccer team got two goals from senior Evan Jastremski (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) today as the Judges knocked off 16th-ranked Rochester, 3-1, in a University Athletic Association contest on Gordon Field. With their fifth-straight win, the Judges improve to 10-4-3 overall, 3-1-2 in the UAA. The Yellowjackets fall to 8-4-3, 1-3-2 UAA.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Jastremski opened the scoring in the eighth minute. After a scramble in front of the Rochester net, senior Josh Ocel (No. Attleboro, Mass./Worcester Acad.) came away with the ball near the left post. He slid the ball through the crowd to an open Jastremski, who deposited into the right netting for his third goal of the season.
  • Rochester got an equalizer six minutes before the half. After a foul in front of the Brandeis 18-yard box, UR sophomore Milan Fatschel (Seven Field, Pa./Seneca Valley) stepped over the free kick. His initial shot went around the wall and was saved, but senior Ben Swanger (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) was there to convert his third goal of the season in the 40th minute.
  • In the 54th minute, Jastremski netted the game-winner when classmate Zach Vieira (Andover, Mass./Brooks School) sent a cross from the end line. Jastremski was there to slam it inside the near post and give the hosts the lead for good.
  • Brandeis tacked on an insurance goal in the 83rd minute. Ocel took a free kick from deep within the defensive end. It bounced once towards the box, where Vieira headed it towards the net. Sophomore Andrew Allen (Norfolk, Mass./King Phillip Regional) was there to blast it into the left netting for his fourth goal of the campaign and give Ocel and Vieira their second assists of the contest.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Rochester owned an 18-11 shooting advantage, while the Judges had a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • Judge junior Ben Woodhouse (Suffield, Conn./Suffield) tied a season-high with six saves, including two spectacular stops in the 30th minute. He denied UR's Jeff Greblick (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) with a kick save, then got back to get a hand on the follow-up by Lucas Loecher (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) and push it outside the far post.
  • Yellowjacket sophomore Patrick Conway (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) had one save in the losing effort.
