Ocel named UAA men's soccer Offensive Player of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. — Brandeis University women's soccer senior midfielder Josh Ocel of North Attleboro, Mass., has earned University Athletic Association Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors for the week ending Oct. 30.

      Ocel earns the UAA weekly honor for the second time this season and the fourth time in his career. In a 3-0 week for the Judges, Ocel had five assists on the team's seven goals. He had one helper in a 2-0 non-conference win over Lasell College on Oct. 25. In a pair of conference victories, he earned two assists in each – once in each half of the team's 2-0 win over Emory on Oct. 28, and one each on the Judges' first and third goals in a 3-1 win over 16th-ranked Rochester on Oct. 30.

      With his five assists last week, Ocel took over the UAA lead with 11 on the season. He also jumped to 12th among all Division III players, while improving to eighth overall with 0.73 assists per game. Ocel also became just the third player in school history with 30 assist for his career, while moving into 22nd place with 56 career points.

      The Brandeis men's soccer team is currently 10-4-3, 3-1-2 in the UAA. The Judges have won five-straight matches and were ranked eighth in the most recent NCAA New England regional rankings. Brandeis will close out its 2016 regular season Saturday at 1:30 p.m. with a UAA match at NYU.

      Ocel is a 2013 graduate of Worcester Academy.
