WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University sophomore midfielder Alex Walter of Londonderry, N.H., was named the November 6 University Athletic Association (UAA) Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, marking his first career weekly honor from the UAA.

Walter found his way into the Judges' starting lineup on October 3 vs. MIT and has not looked back, starting the seven games since then. He shined in Brandeis' final regular season game on Saturday, November 4 against rival NYU. Early in the second half, he played a ball over the top to junior Andrew Allen of Norfolk, Mass., who deposited it in the back of the net to make it 1-0. The assist was the first of Walter's career, as well as the game-winner. As a team, the Judges held NYU to just eight shots, two of which were on goal. None of the Violets' six second-half shots were on frame.

The Judges, ranked, ranked 20th nationally in Division III by D3soccer.com and 19th by the United Soccer Coaches, finished the regular season at 13-4, with a 5-2 record within the UAA. This marks the eighth year in a row the Judges have posted 12 or more wins.

Brandeis begins postseason play by hosting the first two rounds of the NCAA DIII Tournament this Saturday, November 11. The Judges will take on Western Connecticut State at 5 PM.

Walter is a 2016 graduate of Lawrence Academy.
