#8 Rutgers-Newark outlasts Bowdoin in a penalty shootout

WALTHAM, Mass. – The #8 Rutgers-Newark men's soccer team narrowly advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer tournament, outlasting the Bowdoin Polar Bears 3-2 in a penalty shootout after a scoreless regulation and two fruitless overtime periods. HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The closest anyone came to scoring in either overtime period was in the 95th minute when the ball slipped through Van Siclen's hands but was cleared off of the line by midfielder Ryan Houseman.

  • Andres Medina came up with a huge save on Bowdoin's Will Herman to clinch the shootout and keep the Scarlet Raiders' dance going.
