Judges put on a historic effort, trouncing Mass. Maritime 8-0

Waltham, Mass. - Not since 2011 had Brandeis Men's Soccer ever scored 8 goals in a game, that is until they took on Mass. Maritime at Gordon Field. Six different players notched goals, with junior transfer Bryant Nardizzi (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) scoring two consecutive goals in the first half, and junior forward Jake Warren (Medway, Mass./Medway) putting two past the keeper as well. After a rough early stretch to the season, the Judges improve to 3-3 on the season, while the Mass. Maritime Buccaneers fall to 1-4-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Warren opened the scoring just 33 seconds into the match with a close-range effort assisted by junior midfielder Max Breiter (Lincoln, Mass./Lawrence Academy), his second assist of the season. Again, Warren would tack on another to the goal tally with an unassisted 56th-minute strike. The outstanding performance netting the junior forward his 2nd and 3rd goals of the season.
  • Nardizzi cemented himself as the team's leading goalscorer with two first-half goals. The first came in the 8th minute off of an AJ Mercer (South Hadley, Mass./Chicopee Comprehensive) assist. Just moments later in the 16th minute, Nardizzi again found the back of the net, this time from a headed effort off a Jared Panson (West Windsor, NJ./Pennington School) cross.
  • Senior forward Devan Casey (Amherst, NH./Souhegan) grabbed his first goal of the season with an unassisted tally in the 44th minute.
  • Panson, a freshman midfielder, would get his second assist of the game in the 49th minute. This time senior forward Andrew Allen (Norfolk, Mass./King Phillip Regional) was on the receiving end, as Allen was able to put his third goal of the season away.
  • The sophomore midfield duo of Noah Gans (Newton, Mass./Newton South) and Evan Glass (Boxford, Mass./Masconomet Regional) would come off the bench to combine for a nice score in the 55th minute as Gans netted his first goal of the season.
  • Sophomore back Chris Russo (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) got the defensive unit involved on the offensive end as he knocked home AJ Mercer's second assist of the game in the 68th minute of play.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

  • Three Brandeis Goalies saw action, as junior Noah Cohen (North Barrington, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) got the start, recorded a save and got the win. Junior Gabriel Sultan (Brookline, Mass./Brookline) and freshman Max Blacker (Scotch Plains, NJ./St. Benedict's Prep) came on in relief of Cohen, with Blacker getting his first collegiate save.
  • Outshooting Mass. Maritime 13-1 in the first period, the Judges domination was evident early on. The final shot tally was 17-5 in favor of Brandeis with 11 on goal.
  • Despite the tough evening, Mass Maritime starting goalie Kevin Lynch recorded 3 solid saves in the first half.
