WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team opened conference play today with a scoreless draw against visiting Case Western Reserve University in the University Athletic Association opener for both teams. The Judges move to 4-4-1, 0-0-1 UAA, while the Spartans record is now 8-1-1, 0-0-1 in the conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Case Western Reserve held the advantage in the first half, outshooting the Judges, 8-2, though the Judges turned the tables in the second, 11-5, to make it 13-all at the end of regulation.
- CWRU put six of their shots in regulation on net, forcing Brandeis junior Greg Irwin (Passaic, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) to make six saves.
- The first OT session was even at three shots each, with both keepers making one save. Brandeis owned the final 10 minutes, 4-0 in total shots, putting two on net, but Spartan goalie Charlie Fink stopped both to force the draw.
- Brandeis junior Bryant Nardizzi (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) had seven shots, two on goal, to lead the Judges.
- Irwin finished with seven saves, one shy of his season and career-best. It was his fourth shutout of the season.
- Fink ended up with five stops for the visitors.
- The scoreless draw was Brandeis's first since the last time these two teams met in Waltham in 2016.
