Men's soccer suffers 2-0 UAA defeat at WashU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 University Athletic Association (UAA) defeat tonight at Washington University in St. Louis. The Judges fall to 7-6-2 overall, 2-2-1 in the UAA, while the Bears improve to 7-6-1, 3-1-1 UAA.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• WashU controlled play in the first half, outshooting Brandeis, 8-2.
• The Bears broke the ice in the 18^th minute when Jack Newman threaded a through-ball to Ryan Sproule, who tucked it under Brandeis junior goalkeeper Noah Cohen (North Barrington, Ill. / Lake Forest Acad.) for his ninth goal of the season.
• The Bears got an insurance goal in the 40^th minute when Makio Yamamoto finished a cross by Sean Conners that was headed on by Sproule.
• Brandeis turned up the pressure in the second half, outshooting WashU, 13-10, but could not find the back of the net.
• The Judges' best chance came in the 78^th minute, when they drew their only corner of the second half. Senior Andrew Allen (Norfolk, Mass./King Phillip Regional) had his initial shot blocked, and rookie Jared Panson (West Windsor, N.J. / Pennington School) had a rebound cleared off the line by the Bear defense.
• Cohen finished the game with a career-high eight saves but fell to 2-3-1 on the season. WashU's Connor Mathes made five stops to improve to 5-4-1.
