SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Brandeis University men's soccer senior Max Breiter (Lincoln, Mass./Lawrence Academy) scored two goals in less than four minutes to lead the Judges to a non-conference road victory over Springfield College this afternoon. With the win, the Judges improve to 9-3-4 on the season, while the Pride fall to 4-10-1.
Breiter's first goal came in the 22nd minute. He was able to shake free past a Springfield defender and fired it past Pride goalkeeper Clayton Knibbs at 21:33. At the 24:50 mark, Breiter intercepted an SC pass and slotted it home for his sixth goal of the season, tying for the team and University Athletic Association lead. Breiter's 12 points are also tied for the team and league lead.
That was all the offense the Judges would need as senior Greg Irwin (Passaic, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) made a career-high nine saves to preserve his seventh shutout of the season and the 13th of his career. Irwin made three stops in the first half six more in the second. Knibbs had five saves in the losing effort.
Overall, shots were tied at 15-all, with Springfield owning a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
Brandeis returns to action in 10 days on November 1 with a UAA showdown at Emory University in Atlanta at 7:30 p.m. Springfield hosts WPI this Saturday at noon.
