WALTHAM, Mass. – Seven members of the Brandeis men's soccer team were recognized today as members of the All-University Athletic Association teams. Rookie forward Will DeNight of Miami, Florida, was a first-team All-UAA selection, while senior forward Max Breiter of Lincoln, Massachusetts, and senior back Dylan Hennessy of New York, New York, were second-team selections. Four Brandeis players earned All-UAA honorable mention: junior midfielder Evan Glass of Boxford, Massachusetts, senior goalkeeper Greg Irwin of Passaic, New Jersey, rookie midfielder Elias Norris of Bethesda, Maryland, and senior back Alex Walter of Londonderry, New Hampshire.
DeNight was one of only two rookies to earn first-team All-UAA honors. He led Brandeis and the UAA with seven goals and 15 points despite missing four non-conference games in September. Two of his goals came in conference matches, a 3-0 win over Washington University on Oct. 20 and the game-winner in the team's finale against NYU on Nov. 9. DeNight also notched both goals in a non-conference 2-0 win over MIT on Oct. 1.
Breiter was second on the team and tied for second in the UAA with six goals this season. His 12 points were tied for second on the Judges and fourth in the league. Breiter also had two scores in conference play, netting a goal against Carnegie Mellon in a 2-0 Homecoming win on Oct. 5, and the game-winner in the 3-0 win over Washington U. on Oct. 20. Breiter also had a multi-goal game in a non-conference contest, scoring twice in a 2-0 win over Springfield on Oct. 23.
Hennessy led the Judges in assists from his left back position, starting all 17 games he played this season. He tied for the UAA lead with five helpers as the team's primary taker of corner kicks and throw-ins. Hennessy notched two assists in league contests, one against Washington University on Oct. 20 and another against the University of Rochester in a 2-1 loss on Nov. 3. As a defender, he helped the Judges finish second in the UAA and 24th in all of Division III with a 0.70 goals-against average this season. Hennessy was an All-UAA second team selection as a sophomore.
Glass was a defensive midfielder who started in 11 of the team's 19 games. Healso pitched in with long throw-ins. Glass registered one assist this season, in the team's season finale, a 2-0 win against UAA rival NYU on Nov. 9. He also helped contribute to the team's 0.70 GAA.
Irwin led the UAA with 75 saves in the regular season. He was second with an .843 save percentage and third with an 0.72 goals-against average. He was 26th in Division III in save percentage and 31st in GAA. Irwin also led the conference in goalie minutes played, with 1756, 19th-most in Division III. He was a two-time UAA Defensive Player of the Week this season.
Norris started 15 of 19 contests this season at midfield, contributing two goals, both coming against conference foes. He scored the game-winning goal on Homecoming against Carnegie Mellon on Oct. 5, and added another goal in a 3-0 win over Washington University on Oct. 20.
Walter is a three-year starter and two-time previous All-UAA selection, earning second-team honors as a sophomore and as a junior. As a center back, he anchored the conference's second-leading defense, allowing 0.70 goals-against. Walter, one of top players in the league on balls in the air, also scored his fifth career goal this season against the University of Rochester.
Brandeis finished the 2019 season with a 10-5-4 record under third-year head coach Gabe Margolis. The Judges return 12 players who started at least one game last season, including seven who started 10 or more.
DeNight is a 2019 graduate of MAST Academy.
Breiter is a 2016 graduate of Lawrence Academy.
Hennessy is a 2016 graduate of Northfield Mount Hermon.
Glass is a 2017 graduate of Masconomet Regional High School.
Irwin is a 2016 graduate of Seton Hall Prep School.
Norris is a 2019 graduate of Walter Johnson High School.
Walter is a 2016 graduate of Lawrence Academy.
