KEENE, N.H. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat in their second game of the season today, as the Judges fell to Hobart College in the opening match of the Keene State/Home Depot Classic. The Judges fall to 0-1-1 on the season, while the Statesmen improve to 2-0.

The only goal of the game came in the 23rd minute, when Hobard's Fredrick Madsen made a cross from the left corner that Amad Miller knocked home into the right side of the net for his first goal of the season. The Statesmen outshot Brandeis, 5-0, in the first half, but did not put another shot on goal.

Brandeis carried the play in the second half, but were unable to get one past Hobart's Christian Burkhart. The best opportunity for the Judges came in the 53rd minute, when first-year forward John Loo (Easton, Conn. / Joel Barlow) sent a long shot ticketed for the upper 90 that Burkhart punched over the crossbar. Sophomore Max Horowitz (Swansea, Mass. / Northfield Mount Hermon) also put a shot on goal in the 60th minute, but that was the last attempt of the game on frame. Brandeis outshot Hobart, 5-2, in the second half.

Junior Aiden Guthro (Newburyport, Mass. / Newburyport) did not have any saves in the losing effort, while Burkhart finished with two stops for Hobart.

Brandeis will take on host Keene State tomorrow at 5 p.m. in the final game of the tournament.
