Winder nets golden goal for men's soccer in 1-0 win at Keene State

KEENE, N.H. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team broke a scoreless draw just before the end of the first overtime period as the Judges defeated Keene State, 1-0, in the final game of the Keene State/Home Depot Invitational tonight. With the win, Brandeis improves to 1-1-1 on the season, while the Owls fall to 0-1-1.

The game-winning goal came just 12 seconds before the end of the first overtime session. After the Judges drew a foul just on their offensive side of the field. Rookie midfielder Toby Marwell (New York, N.Y. / Hunter Science) sent the free kick into the box and KSC goalkeeper Anthony Pasciuto charged to the top of the box. He punched it towards the left sideline, and Brandeis junior forward Khalil Winder (Miami, Fla./Avon Old Farms (Conn.)) raced in from the flank to drive the ball into the wide-open net. It was the first goal of Winder's career.

The Judges went to overtime for the second time in three games after having the better of play in regulation. Brandeis outshot Keene State, 10-7, in the first 90 minutes, but put five of their shots on goal. Brandeis had one other shot in the overtime, as Pasciuto denied rookie Gabriel Haithcock (Macon, Ga./IMG Academy) in the 95th minute.

Brandeis junior Aiden Guthro (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) earned the shutout without having to make a save on eight Keene State shots. Pasciuto finished with six saves for Keene State.

Brandeis returns to action on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. with a road game at WPI.
