WALTHAM, Mass. -- Brandeis University junior goalkeeper Aiden Guthro of Newburyport, Massachusetts, has been named the University Athletic Association Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Sept. 12th.

Although the Judges suffered a pair of 1-0 defeats last week, Guthro was outstanding in goal. He helped Brandeis play its third scoreless regulation of the season on Wednesday, September 8, with seven saves against WPI. The Engineers scored the winning goal in the 98th minute of the first overtime period. Guthro then made six more stops on Saturday, September 11, as the Judges lost at long-time rival Babson, on a goal in the 42nd minute after a defensive turnover.

For the season, Guthro leads the UAA with 18 saves. He has two shutouts in five contests, and is tied for fourth in the league with an .857 save percentage. This is Guthro's first season as a starter for the Judges.

Brandeis returns to action on Saturday afternoon, September 18, at 1 p.m. when they take on top-ranked and two-time defending Division III national champions Tufts.

Guthro is a 2018 graduate of Newburyport High School.
