Men's soccer goes scoreless in regulation with #17 MIT before falling, 1-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the fourth time this season, the Brandeis University men's soccer team saw a game go scoreless in regulation, but the Judges could not complete the upset of 17th-ranked MIT on the road tonight as the Engineers scored the golden goal in the second extra session to earn a 1-0 win. The Judges fall to 3-5-2 on the season, while the Engineers improve to 9-2-1.

Brandeis entered OT with a 1-1-2 overall in extra sessions, including 1-1-1 in the three previous games that were scoreless after 90 minutes. After an uneventful first 10 minutes of extra time, Brandeis junior Aiden Guthro (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) made his best save of the game in early in the second. After Brandeis brought the ball down to the MIT end of the field, the Engineers regained possession and brought the ball back down the field. The Engineers' Noah Faro sent a cross from the left side, and Peter Novoa was on the other end, getting a head on the ball to redirect it past a diving Guthro.

Regulation saw few good chances to score, with MIT outshooting Brandeis, 10-6, but shots on goal tied at 3-all. Brandeis sophomore Max Horowitz (Swansea, Mass./Northfield Mount Hermon) had two shots, including one on goal, for the Judges. MIT had the only three shots in overtime. Guthro finished with five saves in the losing effort, while MIT's Paarth Desai had three saves for the clean sheet.

Brandeis returns to action on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. for a Homecoming match against Case Western Reserve University in University Athletic Association play. MIT is at Emerson Saturday at 1 in NEWMAC action.
