WORCESTER, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals to get past host Clark University, 2-0, tonight in the Judges' final tune-up before University Athletic Association play this weekend.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Cougars outshot Brandeis, 11-9, in a back-and-forth first half. Seven of Brandeis's shots were on goal, while four of Clark's were, but the goalies were up to the task.
  • The Judges broke through in the 54th minute after a corner kick. Clark had a poor clearance attempt sent back on goal by sophomore back Andres Gonzalez (Doral, Fla. / Divine Savior Academy), and senior Sancho Maroto Tobias (Acton, Mass. / Lexington), a UMass-Lowell transfer, was able to punch it past Clark's Andrew DiStefano.
  • In the 63rd minute, Brandeis got an insurance goal from first-year player Rainer Osselmann-Chai (Acton, Mass. / Acton-Boxborough Regional). Following a Clark turnover on a long ball sent into the box, Osselmann-Chai took a couple of dribbles and blasted a left-footed shot from 20 yards out off a diving DiStefano's hands.
