Mike Coven , the 2012 and 2015 UAA and New England Division III coach of the year, is the only coach currently on the Brandeis staff to have won a national championship. In 1976, his Brandeis team won the NCAA Division III championship and he has guided nine of his teams to the NCAAs, including a second place finish in 1984 and a third place finish in 1981.

In 2015, he became the 11th man in NCAA history and sixth in Division III history to win 500 career games, appearing in Sports Illustrated's Faces In The Crowd. He went on to guide the Judges to a fourth-straight berth in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16, as the squad earned the right to host first- and second-round games. The 2014 squad reached the Elite Eight, when the Judges set program records for consecutive wins, fewest goals allowed and most shutouts. 

Coven’s teams have won four ECAC Division III New England titles, in 1994, 2006 and back-to-back titles in 2010 and 2011. They have also reached the title game three other times. In his 44 years, Coven’s teams have received 29 post-season bids.

Coven has served as president of the New England College Soccer Coaches Association and the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League. He is a graduate of American International College. Prior to Brandeis, Coven coached at Newton South High School, winning Massachusetts Coach of the Year four times. He was also an assistant on the 1980 United States soccer team the won the silver medal at the Maccabiah game.
