Liu shines as men's swimming and diving falls to BC, 149-109

WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis University men's swimming and diving team dropped its first dual meet of the season, 149-109, to Division I Boston College, but the Judges won six of the 14 events tonight.

Junior James Liu (Longmeadow, Mass.) was the star for the Judges, winning three different individual races and anchoring a winning relay. Liu won three different disciplines, capturing the 100-yard butterfly in 53.90 seconds, the 100-yard freestyle in 47.87 seconds and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:03.11.

The Judges had two other individual winners on the night. Rookie Marc Eder (Princeton, N.J.) took the 100-yard breaststroke in his first collegiate dual meet with a time of 1:02.45, while junior Justin Wellins (Canyon County, Calif.) took the 100-yard backstroke in 58.72 seconds. Brandeis also ended the meet on a high note, taking the 400-yard meter relay, as the team of Wellins, senior captain Mike Rubin (Bangor, Maine), senior Bobby Morse (Hope, R.I.) and Liu finished with a time of 3:20.01.
