Men's swimming and diving drops narrow decision to Wheaton, 118-115

NORTON, Mass. -- Although the Brandeis men's swimming and diving team won nine of the evening's 13 events, the Judges were unable to overcome host Wheaton College's depth, especially in the diving events, as the Lyons earned a 118-113 victory.

Brandeis (3-4) had three multiple winners on the night. Junior James Liu (Longmeadow, Mass./Longmeadow) continued his solid campaign with wins in the sprint freestyle events. Liu toko the 50 free in 22.47 seconds and the 100 in 48.92 seconds. Sophomore Aaron Bennett (Setauket, N.Y./Ward Melville) showed versatility in winning the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.67) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.14). Rookie Marc Eder (Princeton, N.J./Lawrenceville) rounded out the multiple winners by claiming the 200-yard individual medley (2:05.06) and the 200 breaststroke (2:17.17).

The Judges also won both relay events. The team of junior Justin Wellins (Canyon County, Calif./Canyon), Eder, Bennet and senior Michael Rubin (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) opened the meet with win in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:43.96. Brandeis ended the meet with a triumph by the team of rookie Joshua Allgaier (Ambler, Pa/Hatboro-Horsham), sophomore Eli Tuckachinsky (Jefferson, Mass./Wachusett Reg.), senior Robert Morse (Hope, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) and Liu in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:27.21.

The Judges are next in action next Wednesday evening at Clark University.
