Swimmers drop a pair at Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass.  – The Brandeis University swimming and diving team met their cross-town rivals from Bentley University on Friday night, and the host Falcons took a pair of victories. The Brandeis men dropped a 191-97 decision, while the women suffered a 191-91 defeat.

Both the Brandeis men and women each had one double-winner on the evening. For the men, sophomore Zach Diamond (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Acad.) continued his terrific season in the 1000-yard free, winning with a time of 10:19.36, more than an 11-second margin of victory. Diamond also took the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:28.36, winning by just under two seconds. He was also second in the 500 free with a time of 5:03.96.

On the women's side, senior Fallon Bushee (Malden, Mass. / Mystic Valley Regional Charter Sch.) earned a pair of victories. She captured the 50-yard freestyle by 0.29 seconds with a time of 26.17 seconds. Bushee also picked up a narrow 0.19 second victory in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.10 seconds.

Junior Joanna Murphy (Sarasota, Fla./Riverview) gave Brandeis a sweep in the 1000 with a time of 11:22.54, winning by nearly a full minute over teammate Theresa Gaffney (Braintree, Mass. / Braintree), who posted a time of 12:13.02.

Men's junior Edan Zitelny (Syosset, N.Y. / Syosset) earned a win in the 200-butterfly with a time of 2:04.82. Classmate Cameron Braz (Monson, Mass. / Monson) had the closest win of the day in the 100 free, outtouching his opponent from Bentley by three-hundredths of a second with a time of 49.85.

The Judges return to action on Dec. 4-6 for the WPI Invitational.
