Zitelny family picks up four wins in BUSDT meet against Wheaton

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis swimming and diving team had a pair of triple winners today as the Judges opened their 2016-17 home campaign against Wheaton College Saturday afternoon. The Judges fell to the Lyons in the team results – 157-131 on the men's side and 185-102 on the women's.

In his first collegiate meet, rookie Tamir Zitelny (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) earned three victories in three different disciplines. He captured the 100 yard backstroke in 53.86, the 100 butterfly in 53.29 and 200 individual medley in 2:21.69. His brother, senior Edan Zitelny(Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) also contributed a win in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:05.96.

The Judges also had a triple winner on the women's side, sophomore Kylie Herman (Weston, Fla. / Cypress Bay). Herman had a pair of freestyle wins, taking the 200 in 2:01.31 and the 500 in 5:28.12. She also captured the 200 butterfly in 2:21.09.

Brandeis had four additional swimmers who won a single event. On the men's side, junior Zach Diamond (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Academy) was victorious in the first individual event of the day, the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:43.75 with a 15-second margin of victory over teammate Taku Harada (Henrico, Va. / Mills E. Godwin). Senior captainCameron Braz (Monson, Mass./Monson) took home the 100 free by just two-hundredths of a second with a time of 51.18 seconds. Two rookies who won in their first collegiate dual meet were Noah Ayers (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) for the men, who captured the 500 free in 5:09.31, and Natalya Wozab (Plantation, Fla. / Saint Thomas Aquinas) in the 200 IM, with a time of 2:21.68.

The Judges return to action next weekend with the University of Rochester Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
