CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior Tamir Zitelny (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) followed up his outstanding UAA performance with a New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) title in the 100-yard butterfly on Friday night.
Zitelny wasn't able to lower his school record in the 100 fly, but won the race handily with a time of 49.63 seconds, more than a full second ahead of classmate and runner-up Matthew Arcemont (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei).
The Judges had two other competitors earn individual medals on Day 2 of the meet. Sophomore Richard Selznick (Las Vegas, Nev./Palos Verdes) was the silver medalist in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:43.27. Rookie Brendon Lu (Basking Ridge, NJ / Ridge) took bronze in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:57.31.
Just missing out on the top three were sophomore Audrey Kim (Livingston, N.J. / Livingston) in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.57, rookie Olivia Stebbins (Willington, Conn. / Edwin O. Smith) in the 50 breaststroke in 31.51 and rookie Claire Xu (East Hanover, NJ / Newark Academy) in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.48, all of whom finished in fourth place.
The Judges also had a second-place finish in the 200 free relay from Zitelny, Arcemont, junior Tom Alger (Plymouth, Mass. / Sacred Heart) and sophomore Marcelo Ohno-Machado (San Diego, Calif. / Torrey Pines) who swam a time of 1:26.18. The women's 200 free relay Kim, sophomore Uajda Musaka (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop), Xu and rookie Lauren Howard (Abington, Mass. / Cardinal Spellman) won the 'B' final and set a school record of 1:39.02.
The Judges also took second place in the men's 800-yard free relay on the first day of action at the meet. Ohno-Machado, Lu, sophomore Chase Chen (Villanova, Penn. / The Hill School) and Selznick finished with a time of 7:06.56. The women's squad of rookies Abbie Etzweiler (Malvern, Pa. / Great Valley), Gazelle Umbay (North Hills, Calif. / Sierra Canyon School), and Natalie Westrick (Lincoln, R.I. / Lincoln) and senior Kylie Herman (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) were fifth with a time of 8:10.73.
The Brandeis men were in 2nd place with 219 points after Day 1 of action, trailing Roger Williams with 342 points. The women were in third place with 400 points, behind Simmons and RWU.
