Judges finish tough Gompei Invite in 10th place

Waltham, Mass. – Day three of the Gompei Invitational was much of the same as Brandeis finished the invitational in 10thplace with a total of 1645 points across all three competition days. Despite some fierce competition, the Judges displayed their characteristic depth. 

The Women led the team on day three, the final day of events. First-year Bailey Gold (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) was the highest point getter, with 109 combined on the day. Highlighted by the sole podium finish of the day for the Judges in the 200-yard butterfly where she finished in 3rdplace. Senior Natalya Wozab (Plantation, Fla./American Heritage) earned one of the other individual top-ten finishes for the women as she came in 9thduring the 100-yard Individual Medley, sophomore Olivia Stebbins (Willington, CT./ Edwin O. Smith) had the other as she finished 10thin the 50-yard backstroke. The 400-yard free relay team of juniors Uajda Musaku (Winthrop, Mass./Winthrop), and Audrey Kim (Livingston, N.J./Livingston) and first-years Gold and Ema Rennie (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Scioto) swam well to place 8thin their event. 

Junior Daniel Wohl (Chapel Hill, N.C./East Chapel Hill)took control for the men, scoring 100 points, punctuated by three top-15 finishes. The first came in the 100-yard freestyle swim where Wohl placed 9th. Next was the 500-yard freestyle event where Wohl finished 13th, one spot ahead of junior Richard Selznick (Las Vegas, Nev./Palos Verde). Lastly, the 400-yard free relay team of Wohl, Selznick, senior Tamir Zitelny (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset), and junior Marcelo Ohno-Machado (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) swam fast to the 8thoverall position. First-year James Barno (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) continued his sparkling rookie season with a 5thplace finish in the 200-yard backstroke

Some new records have been set so far for the Judges at the invitational. Bailey Gold set two new records: one in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.57 seconds, as well as a new 100-yard butterfly record at 58.18 seconds. Tamir Zitelny set the bar in the 50-yard butterfly with a record of 22.94 seconds, while Ema Rennie set a new 50-yard butterfly record herself at 26.81 seconds.

The Judges will get back in the pool Saturday January 11that home in the Linsley Pool against Trinity.
