Men's tennis bounces back with 8-1 win over DII Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Brandeis men's tennis team evened their spring record today with a convincing 8-1 win over Division II Eckerd College. The Judges improve to 3-1 on the season and 1-1 on their Florida swing, while the Tritons fall to 0-1.

After getting swept in doubles their spring opener at Flagler College yesterday, Brandeis bounced back with two of three wins in doubles today. Junior Simon Miller (Plantation, Fla./Plantation) and junior transfer Nick White (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley) took an 8-5 decision at first doubles, while sophomore Mike Tatarsky (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills) and junior Steven Nieman (Forest Hills, N.Y./Benjamin Cardozo) won, 8-4, at No. 2.

In singles action, Brandeis swept all six matches, including three in the third set. White won, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, while Miller took a 6-1, 7-5 decision at No. 2. Nieman's 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles helped clinch the match, while rookies Dave Yovanoff (Eden, N.Y./Eden), Fred Rosensteyn (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) and Steven Milo (Woodbiry, N.Y./Syosset) all prevailed in the third to complete the singles sweep.

The Judges continue their Florida swing on Saturday when they travel to Palm Beach Atlantic University.
