MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- The Brandeis men's tennis team had a fine showing at the 2010 Middlebury College Invitational. The Judges sent fives players to the finals of their flights, with one other semifinalist.

In singles competition, sophomore Steven Milo (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) had the deepest run, making it to the finals of the C singles competition. Milo topped foes from Vassar (6-3, 6-3), host Middlebury (1-6, 6-4, 10-2 in a super tie-breaker) and Skidmore (6-2, 6-3) before falling to another Panther player, 6-2, 6-1 in the finals.

Senior Simon Miller (Plantation, Fla./Plantation) had the best all-around tournament, reaching the B singles semifinals. After a win over an opponent from Skidmore (6-2, 6-1), Miller had back-to-back matches against host Middlebury that went to a third-set super-tiebreaker. Miller earned a 6-4, 1-6, 10-6 win in the quarterfinals, but fell in the semis, 6-3, 1-6, 9-11. Miller also reached the finals of the A doubles draw along with classmate Nick White (Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley). They rolled past a duo from Bates, 8-2, in the opener, before taking matches from Middlebury, 8-4, and 8-3. In the title match, the Ithaca College team of Rifkin and Newton prevailed, 8-6.

In the B doubles draw, senior Ezra Bernstein (Buffalo, N.Y./City Honors School) and sophomore Fred Rozenshteyn (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) also reached the finals. They also faced a number of host Middlebury players, winning 8-5 in the first round, surviving a 9-7 match against Trinity in the quarters and taking an 8-6 win over two more Panthers in the semis. Bernstein and Rozenshteyn's run came to an end, 8-3, in the finals against Middlebury's Parower and Oberrender.
