THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- The Brandeis University men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2013 season today, dropping an 8-1 decision to 11th-ranked Cal Lutheran University.
The Judges (1-1) fell behind in doubles action, with the closest match coming at No. 2, where sophomore Alec Siegel (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) and rookie Mitch Krems (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Century Acad.) fell by an 8-6 margin to Alex Nichols and Connor Treacy. The No. 1 doubles team of senior Steven Milo (Woodbury, Conn./Syosset) and Josh Jordan (Northboro, Mass./Algonquin Regional) dropped an 8-3 decision, while senior Dave Yovanoff (Eden, N.Y./Eden) and sophomore Michael Secular (Bronx, N.Y./Plant, Fla.) fell 8-2.
In singles action, Brandeis picked up their lone point at No. 5, where Krems, playing in his hometown, earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory. The Kingsmen took the rest of the singles matches in straight sets, with Milo falling to Nicholas Ballou, the 2012 NCAA Division III singles runner-up, 6-2, 6-4. Milo had defeated Ballou on the Judges' February trip last season.
The Judges have a day off tomorrow before returning to action on Thursday against Chapman University.
