WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis University men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 victory over the visiting Coast Guard Academy Bears today in the Gosman Athletic Center. With the win, which was the Judges' first by more than one point this season, Brandeis improves to 4-6 on the season, while the Bears fall to 1-5.
Brandeis cruised through doubles play, as seniors Josh Jordan (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Regional) and Steven Milo (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) were joined by the duo of rookie Mitch Krems (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Century Acad.) and sophomore Michael Secular (Bronx, N.Y./Plant, Fla.) as 8-1 winners at No. 1 and 3, respectively. Senior Dave Yovanoff (Eden, N.Y./Eden) and rookie Danny Lubarsky (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken School) were 8-5 victors at No. 2 in the closest match of the day.
In singles play, Brandeis had three love sets. Jordan was a 6-0, 6-3, winner at No. 2 in the first round of matches. Secular lost the fewest games of the day at No. 5, 6-0, 6-2, and Lubarsky picked up a 6-3, 6-0, win at No. 6.
Brandeis returns to action next Thursday, March 28, against Babson at home at 3:30 p.m.
