WALTHAM, Mass. -- The Brandeis men's tennis team rallied from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play by winning five of six singles matches as the Judges defeated visiting Babson, 6-3, today. Brandeis improves to 5-6 with the win, while Babson falls to 4-5

The match started outdoors, and Babson jumped out to a lead with wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles. Babson's Roberto Perez and Victor Vu defeated Brandeis senior Dave Yovanoff (Eden, N.Y./Eden) and rookie Danny Lubarsky (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken School), 8-3, to open the scoring at No. 2. The Judges got on the board at No. 3 behind an 8-3 win by sophomore Michael Secular (Bronx, N.Y./Plant, Fla.) and rookie Mitch Krems (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Century Acad.) over Davin Garcia and Mitchell Henry. Ramone Doyley and Connor DeFiore gave the Beavers the lead headed into singles as they knocked off Brandeis senior Steven Milo (Woodbury, N.Y./Syosset) and sophomore Ben Fine (Providence, R.I./Moses Brown School), 8-5, at the top spot. It was the first pairing of Milo and Fine this season.

Singles action was delayed once early in the first set because of a drizzle, but a second storm cloud forced the match indoors with each team having won the first set in three of the six matches. Relocated to Brandeis's faster indoor courts in the Gosman Athletic Center, the Judges quickly rebounded to take the lead. Secular finished off Doyley at No. 4, 6-2, 6-3, to tie the match, while Yovanoff fended off Isaac Thylen, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 3 to give Brandeis the 3-2 lead.

The biggest momentum shift thanks to the venue change came at No. 2 singles. Krems trailed Vu, 5-7, 3-4, when the match was moved. He went on to win nine straight games inside, claiming the final two sets, 6-4, 6-0, to push Brandeis to the brink of victory. Milo earned the clinching point with a late break of serve over Perez, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1 singles.

The final two matches were a pair of three-setters, with Lubarsky gaining momentum by winning a long second-set tiebreaker en route to a 4-6, 7-6 (11-9), 6-1, win. Babson's lone singles win came at No. 6, where DeFiore defeated Brandeis junior Adam Brown (W. Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (7-3).

Brandeis is off for nearly two weeks, taking on Division I Bryan University on April 11 in Providence, R.I. Babson hosts Springfield in a NEWMAC match Saturday at 1 p.m.
