REDLANDS, Calif. -- The Brandeis University men's tennis team opened their 2014 season with 7-2 loss at the hands of the University of Redlands Bulldogs, the No. 14 team in Division III, on Tuesday afternoon.

      Brandeis (0-1) dropped their 7-2 decision to the nationally-ranked Redlands (1-0) squad despite terrific play from sophomore Danny Lubarsky (Cleveland, Ohio/Hawken School) and rookie Michael Arguello (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood).

In their first dual match as a doubles team, Lubarsky and Arguello rolled past the Bulldogs' top pairing of Patrick Lipscomb and Gram Leahy, 8-2. While Arguello was unable to duplicate the feat in singles play, falling to Lipscomb, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 1 singles. Lubarsky won a marathon match over Redlands' Teddy Burchett at No. 5 for the team's second point. The match consisted of the first two sets that went to tiebreakers, followed by a 40-point super tiebreaker in the third. Lubarsky won the first set, 7-6 (7-2), but was edged in the second set breaker, 7-5. In the STB, Lubarsky outlasted Burchett, 21-19, for the point.

The Judges return to action on Thursday against Chapman University in the second match of their three-match road trip to California.
