Granoff reaches ITA quarterfinals

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Brandeis junior Brian Granoff (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) reached the quarterfinals of the 2015 Intercollegiate Tennis Association New England regional tournament this past weekend at Williams College.

Granoff turned in the best performance by a Brandeis men's player since 2012, when Steven Milo '13 reached the quarters as well.

Seeded eighth headed into the tournament, Granoff opened with a 6-3, 6-4, win over Colby's Cam Hillier. His quickest match of the tournament came in the second round, when he bounced Wheaton's David Gassen, 6-2, 6-0, to advance to the second day of competition. 

In the Round of 16, Granoff met his first seeded player, taking out Bowdoin's Kyle Wolfe, 7-5, 6-3, to reach the final eight. There, he met his match in Steven Chen of Wesleyan, who moved on to the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-1, win.

Other singles matches for the Judges saw junior Ryan Bunis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Groton-Dunstable (Mass.) defeat Bowdoin's Gil Roddy, 6-2, 6-2, in the first round before having to withdraw from the tournament. Rookie Tyler Ng (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South) dropped his opening-round match to Ben Rosen of Bates, 6-2, 6-1. 

In doubles action, Granoff and junior Jeffrey Cherkin (Melville, N.Y. / Half Hollow Hills East) fell to eighth-seeded Raventos and Schidlovosky of host Williams, 8-2, in the first round.
