#32 Men's Tennis Upsets #30 Stevens Institute of Technology with Singles Sweep

Waltham, Mass.— The Brandeis men's tennis team, ranked #32 in the nation in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, knocked off 30th-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology today, 8-1, in the Judges' home opener. Brandeis improves to 4-2 on the season, while the Ducks fall to 1-3.

Brandeis opened the afternoon by taking two of three doubles matches. Senior Jeffrey Cherkin (Melville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) and sophomore Jackson Kogan (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Windward School) rolled at No. 3 without dropping a game, 8-0. Seniors Michael Arguello (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) and Brian Granoff (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) made it 2-0 with an 8-3 win at the top spot. Stevens got on the board at No. 2 doubles behind an 8-5 win from Michael Feldman and Danny Polk.
In singles action, The Judges ran the table on the Ducks, taking all six points. Granoff made quick work of Kyle Henry at the No. 2 position, 6-1, 6-0, Arguello came out on top at the No. 1 position in a three-set showdown, 7-6(7-5), 4-6, 7-6(8-6), and sophomore Tyler Ng (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck South) won in straight sets at the No. 3 position, 7-6, 6-1. Other singles victories for the Judges included Kogan at No. 5 with a 6-2, 7-6(8-6) decision, freshman Mitchell Ostrovsky (Brooklyn, N.Y./Leon M Goldstein) at the No. 4 position, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, and freshman Ben Wolfe (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) at No. 6, 0-6, 10-8.
 
It was the Judges' first singles sweep of the season, coming against the higher-ranked opponent, Stevens Tech.
The Judges will see their next action as they host UAA-rival NYU on Friday March 10th at 7:30pm.
