#32 men's tennis rolls past Wheaton (Mass.), 9-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – The 32nd-ranked Brandeis men's tennis team picked up big win this afternoon as the Judges dealt Wheaton (Mass.) a 9-0 defeat in a match split between the indoor courts of the Gosman Athletic Center and the outdoor Rieger Tennis Courts. The Judges improve to 5-6, while the Lyons fall to 2-8 on the season.

 

Brandeis rolled in doubles action, losing just three games in the matches. Rookie David Aizenberg (Highland Park, Ill. / Highland Park) and sophomore Tyler Ng (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South) were 8-0 winners at No. 2, while senior Brian Granoff (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep) and sophomore Jackson Kogan (Pacific Palisades, Calif. / Windward School) won 8-1 at No. 3. Seniors Michael Arguello (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood) and Ryan Bunis (Cincinnati, Ohio/Groton-Dunstable, Mass.) closed out the sweep, 8-2.

 

The Judges had four love sets across the six singles matches. Rookies Benjamin Wolfe (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) and Mitchell Ostrovsky (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Leon M Goldstein) clinched the victory with easy wins at No. 4 (6-0, 6-1) and No. 3 (6-0, 6-2), respectively. Granoff earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2, while Bunis had the day's toughest singles match, defeating Jeremiah Ryser 6-2, 7-5, at the top spot. Kogan (6-2, 6-0) and senior Jeffrey Cherkin (Meville, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) (6-4, 6-0) rounded out the win at the bottom of the lineup with two more love sets at 5 and 6.

 

Brandeis returns to action next Saturday afternoon with a trip to Hartford to meet Trinity (Conn.).
