Top doubles tandem takes home UAA honors

WALTHAM, Massachusetts – The Brandeis University men's tennis doubles team of sophomore David Aizenberg of Highland Park, Ill., and rookie Anupreeth Coramutla of Monroe Township, N.J have earned University Athletic Association Player of the Week honors for September 25.

The pair were honored for their performance at the 2017 Middlebury College Invitational, the first event of the season for the Judges. The duo opened with an upset over the second-seeded team of Rohan Gupte and Zain Ali from Tufts, extending the Jumbos to a tiebreaker before taking a 9-8 (9-7) win. They rolled over Jason Keye and Jack McLaren from Skidmore College, 8-2, in the quarterfinals before knocking off the third-seeded tandem of Steven Koulouris and JT Wynne, also from the Thoroughbreds, 8-6. Facing the tandem of Kyle Schlanger and Timo van der Geest from the host Middlebury Panthers in the finals, the Judges were unable to complete the sweep with an 8-6 defeat.

For Aizenberg, it was his second-straight strong showing at the Middlebury Invitational. As a rookie in 2016, he won the D singles flight.

The Judges return to Middlebury this weekend for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Regional championship.

Aizenberg is a 2016 graduate of Highland Park High School. Coramutla is a 2017 graduate of Phillips Andover Academy.
