#14 men's tennis advances to UAA 5th place match with 8-1 win over Rochester

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – The 14th-ranked Brandeis University men's tennis team, enjoying their highest national ranking since 1989, advanced to the fifth-place match the University Athletic Association tournament today with an 8-1 win over the University of Rochester Yellowjackets. The Judges improve to 14-4 on the season, their highest win total since 2000-01. UR falls to 7-13.

Brandeis swept the doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead. Sophomore David Aizenberg (Highland Park Ill./Highland Park) and rookie Anupreeth Coramutla (Monroe Township, N.J./Phillips Andover) rolled to an 8-2 win at No. 1. Juniors Jackson Kogan (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Windward School) and Tyler Ng (Great Neck, N.Y./Great Neck North) were 8-6 winners at No. 2 in the closest doubles contest, while rookies Nikhil Das (Smithfield, R.I./Moses Brown School) and Rajan Vohra (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore) completed the sweep, 8-3.

UR picked up their only point of the match with the first singles decision as Tanmay Thakar won, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 4. Kogan rolled to a 6-1, 6-1, win at No. 2, while Aizenberg clinched the match at No. 1, 7-5, 6-0.

Junior Ethan Saal (Scarsdale, N.Y./Abraham Joshua Heschel School) won 6-2, 6-4, at No. 6, while sophomore Benjamin Wolfe (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) was a 6-3, 6-2, winner at No. 5. The only three-set match was captured by Ng, who defeated Yifan Shen of CMU  at No. 3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-0, 10-5, capturing the third set in a super tiebreaker.

The Judges will move on to take on 21st-ranked Case Western Reserve tomorrow in the fifth-place match as they look for their second-straight finish atop the consolation bracket and their first 15-win season since 1988.
