WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis men's tennis team closed out its fall schedule with the Tufts-Deis Invitational, a flighted tournament held at Brandeis and Tufts this weekend.

The Judges' best performances came in doubles action. In the 'A' doubles draw, senior Jackson Kogan (Los Angeles, Calif./Windward School) and rookie Adam Tzeng (Eagle, Idaho/Eagle) reached the semifinals. The top-seeded duo defeated teams from Williams, 8-7 (10-8), and Bowdoin, 8-5, in the first two rounds before falling to fourth-seeded Bessette and Wei of Amherst, 8-4, in the semis.

In the 'B' draw, the unseeded tandem of sophomore Anupreeth Coramutla (Monroe Township, N.J. / Phillips Andover) and Colt Tegtmeier (Madison, Wisc. / James Madison Memorial) also made a run to the semis. They knocked off opponents from Williams in the opening round, 8-5, before upsetting top-seeded Brach and Vilys of Middlebury in the quarterfinals, also by an 8-5 score. The Judges then fell to the Amherst duo of Levitin and Ruparel, 8-7, in the semis.

In singles action, the Judges sent two players to the quarterfinals as well. Third-seeded Kogan topped Akash Verma of Tufts, 6-3, 6-4, in the first round and Princeton Carter of Wesleyan, 6-4, 7-5, in the second. Kogan was pushed to a third-set super-tiebreaker in the quarters before falling to Will Tuchetta of Amherst, 6-7, 6-2, 10-5. In the other half of the draw, senior Tyler Ng (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South) picked up wins over Arman Dave of MIT, 6-4, 6-2, and Peter Freylinshuysen of Williams, 6-2, 6-4, before dropping his quarterfinal match to Damien Ruparel of Amherst, 7-6, 6-1.

Three Judges won their first-round matches in the 'A' draw, with Tzeng and sophomore Rajan Vohra (Glen Head, N.Y. / North Shore) each delivering upsets of seeded players. Tzeng knocked off fourth-seeded Adam Ma of Amherst, 1-6, 6-0, 10-5, while Vohra defeated seventh-seeded Nate Eazor of Middlebury, 6-2, 6-2. Coramutla earned a 7-6 (7-2), 6-1, win over Alan Delmen of Bowdoin in the first round. None of the Judges advanced after their first matches, however.

The Judges return to action in February with their annual spring break trip to California.
