#9 men's tennis narrowly defeats MIT, 5-4

The Brandeis University men's tennis team, ranked #9 in Division 3, defeated MIT, 5-4 today. With the win the Judges improve to 14-3, while the Beavers fall to 6-5.

In doubles play, the Judges took a 2-1 as there one loss came at No. 1 as duo of junior David Aizenberg (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) and sophomore Anupreeth Coramutla (Monroe Township, N.J./Phillips Andover) fell 8-5. Duo of rookie Colt Tegtmeier (Madison, Wisc. / James Madison Memorial) and senior Tyler Ng (Great Neck, N.Y. / Great Neck South) got things going with a 8-3 victory at No. 3, while duo of rookie Jeffrey Chen (Northfield, Ill. / New Trier) and rookie Adam Tzeng (Eagle, Idaho/Eagle) followed suit, claiming a 8-7 victory at No. 2.

In singles play it was a back and forth affair as MIT evened the score with a win at No. 2 as sophomore Coramutla fell 6-2, 6-3. The Judges pulled ahead at No. 6 as sophomore Rajan Vohra (Glen Head, N.Y. / North Shore) claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win, but MIT would respond as sophomore Nikhil Das (Smithfield, R.I. / Moses Brown School) fell 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5. Once again the Judges would pull ahead as rookie Tzeng earned a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3, but once again MIT would respond as junior Aizenberg was defeated in three sets, 6-1, 1-6, 3-6 at No. 1. It came down to the final match at No. 4 as it was rookie Chen who clinched the victory for the Judges  with a three set victory, 6-3, 6-7, 6-2.

The Judges will be back in action on Friday to kick off the UAA Tournament in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
