WATERVILLE, Maine – Brandeis University senior David Aizenberg (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) reached the quarterfinals in both the singles and doubles draws of the 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association New England Regional tournament this weekend.

In singles action, Aizenberg was the tournament's third seed. He opened the tournament with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jason Weisman of Babson on Friday afternoon. Aizenberg then outlasted Jan Wenger of host Colby in the second round, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) to reach the second day of action. In the round of 16, he rolled past Aidan Harris of Middlebury, 6-1, 6-2, but could not top another Panther player, 9-16 seed Stan Morris in the quarters, falling 6-4, 6-3. Morris went on to be the tournament runner-up.

In the doubles draw, Aizenberg and junior Anupreeth Coramutla (Princeton, Junction, N.J./Phillips Andover) were slated as the second seed. They edged Patel and Vergara in the first round to advance to the second day of play. They reached the third round with a 8-3 win over Rhinelander and Ma of Amherst, but dropped a tight 8-6 match to runners-up Sorkin and Belandres in the quarterfinals.

The Judges had two other competitors reach the second day of competition in singles, as sixth-seeded Coramutla won a three-setter from Joshua Maxwell Conlin of Babson, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, before defeating Peter Freylinghausen (one of the doubles champions), 6-3, 6-1, to reach Day Two. A tough tiebreaker in the first set against 9-16 seed Noah Lillienthal saw the Judge fall, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4, in the Round of 16.

Another of the 9-16 seeds was sophomore Adam Tzeng (Eagle, Idaho). He defeated Bass Lin of Emerson, 6-2, 6-3, in his opener and Andre Xiao of Middlebury, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. Second seed and eventual champion Boris Sorkin of Tufts knocked of Tzeng in the third round, 6-3, 6-3. Tzeng teamed with classmate Jeffrey Chen (Northfield, Ill. / New Trier) in the doubles competition, and they won their opener easily, 8-0, over Go and Shen of MIT, but Williams' Kam and Ravaghan knocked the Judges off in the second round, 8-3.

Chen reached the second round of singles competition with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Ross DeRose of Trinity, but fell to 9-16 seed Robby Ward of Middlebury, 6-2, 2-6, 6-0, in the second round. Junior Nikhil Das (Smithfield, R.I./Moses Brown School) fell in the first round,  1-6, 7-5, 6-4, to Calvin Chung of Williams, while the doubles pairing of sophomore Colt Tegtmeier (Madison, Wisc./James Madison Memorial) and Simon Kauppila (Chesterfield, Mo./Marquette H.S.) were defeated 8-3 by top-seeded and eventual champs Taylor and Freylinghausen of Williams.
