Men's tennis closes season with two titles at Wesleyan Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Brandeis University men's tennis team won a pair of titles at their final competition of the season, the Wesleyan University Invitational.

The team's top competitor on the weekend was sophomore Colt Tegtmeier (Madison, Wisc./James Madison Memorial), who won the 'D' singles flight and reached the finals of the 'B' doubles. In singles action, Tegtmeier opened his weekend with an upset, rolling past top-seeded Zach Ebenfield of RPI, 6-0, 6-2. He defeated Niko Hereford of Tufts, 6-4, 7-5, to set up an all-Brandeis semifinal against classmate Nico Ramirez (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep). Ramirez bested Max Lee of Wesleyan, 6-1, 6-1, in the first round and another teammate, rookie Hunter Levine (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay), 3-6, 6-1, 15-13, in the quarterfinals. In the semis, Tegtmeier rolled to another straight-set win, 6-2, 6-3, setting up yet another all-Judge match with senior Benjamin Wolfe (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon). Wolfe reached the finals by taking down second-seeded Alan Delman of Bowdoin in the first round, 3-6, 6-4, 10-3, and upending third seed Shaw Rhinelander of Amherst in the semifinals, 7-5, 7-5. In the battle of the Judges in the finals, Tegetmeier outlasted Wolfe, 3-6, 6-3, 12-10.

In doubles action, Tegtmeier paired with junior Rajan Vohra (Glen Head, N.Y./North Shore) to reach the finals. They defeated Tamaoki and Teruyama of RPI, 8-3, in the first round, then took down fourth-seeded Vilys and Hilty of Middlebury, 8-6, in the quarters. They bested another seeded squad, No. 2 Turchetta and Ma of Amherst, 8-5, in the semis, before pushing top-seeded Fortier and Vergara to a tiebreaker in the finals before ultimately falling, 7-8 (3-7).

In 'A' draw of the doubles tournament, senior David Aizenberg (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) and junior Anupreeth Coramutla (Monroe Township, N.J. / Phillips Andover) survived four tough tests to emerge victorious. They took out Hereford and Bershtein of Tufts, 8-5, in the opening round, then dispatched Lieb and Weisman of host Wesleyan, 8-7 (7-3), in the second. In the semifinals, they won another tiebreaker over Wang and Patel of Bowdoin, 8-7 (7-3), before taking the finals over third-seeded Carter and Lillienthal of Wesleyan, 8-6.
