Men's tennis finishes 4th at ITA Indoors with 6-3 loss to Chicago

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – The 8th-ranked Brandeis men's tennis team finished in fourth place at the 2020 ITA Division III Indoor Championships after a 6-3 defeat at the hands of 4th-ranked Chicago today in Minnesota.

For the third match in a row, the Judges took a lead after doubles action. Sophomores Jeffrey Chen (Northfield, lll./New Trier) and Adam Tzeng (Eagle, Idaho/Eagle) finished a perfect tournament with an 8-6 win at #2, while sophomore Colt Tegtmeier (Madison, Wisc./James Madison Memorial) and junior Rajan Vohra (Smithfield, R.I./Moses Brown School) won by the same score at #3. The Maroons won a third 8-6 decision at #1 with Erik Kerrigan and Jeremy Yuan handing senior David Aizenberg (Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park) and junior Anupreeth Coramutla (Madison Township, N.J./Phillips Andover) their first loss of the tourney.

In singles action, UC moved ahead by winning the first three matches at 3, 5 and 6. After Coramutla picked up a 7-5, 6-2, win at #2 to get Brandeis back within 4-3, Chicago won the last two matches in three sets, with Joshua Xu defeating Aizenberg, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5, at #1 and Yuan handing Chen his first defeat – singles or doubles – of the tournament at #4, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.

The Judges, who sit at 2-2 on the season, will return to New England and face Division I Bryant University in their next match on March 7 in Rhode Island.
