WALTHAM, Mass. – The Brandeis University men's tennis team concluded its 2020-21 regular season today with a convincing 7-2 win over Division II Franklin Pierce University, sweeping singles play in a match played indoors in the Gosman Athletic Center.

Brandeis opened the match with an 8-3 victory at #1 double from senior Anupreeth Coramutla (Monroe Township, N.J./Phillips Andover) and junior Colt Tegtmeier (Madison, Wisc./James Madison Memorial). FPU answered by winning two close matches at #2 and #3, 8-7 (8-6) and 8-6 to take the lead into singles action.

Junior Jeffrey Chen (Northfield, Ill./New Trier) evened the score with a 6-4, 7-5, win at #2 singles. Rookie Dylan Walters (Baltimore, Md./Gilman School) put Brandeis ahead with a 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 win at #3. Both players were able to avenge their doubles loss in the process. Coramutla completed a 2-0 day with the first of two three-set wins for the Judges, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3. That gave Brandeis a 4-2 lead headed into the final group of three singles matches.

Tegtmeier completed a 2-0 mark with the clinching win at #4, 6-2, 6-3. Senior Nikhil Das (Smithfield, R.I./Moses Brown School) edged his foe in a third-set super-tiebreaker at #5, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8, while classmate Ben Maffa (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) rolled to a 6-2, 6-0, win at #6 to round out the victory.

The Judges conclude their regular season with a 6-1 record. Ranked #2 in the Northeast Region, Brandeis will learn its postseason fate next Monday. The Ravens end their regular season at 7-3, but received an at-large berth into the NCAA DII tournament, where they will meet Concordia (N.Y.) this weekend.
