BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Brandeis University men's tennis team was led by first-year player Tommy Harrison (London, England / National Extension College), who advanced in both the singles and doubles draw, at the 2022 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships at Bowdoin College.

Harrison was the only Judge to advance in the singles draw, upsetting the sixth seed from Babson, 7-6 (6-4), 6-4, in the opening round. Harrison fell in the second round to George Chaidemenous of Amherst, 6-3, 6-2. Harrison also teamed with junior Dylan Walters (Baltimore, Md. / Gilman School) for a first-round win in doubles action, 8-1, over the team of Forester and Koide of Bates before falling to the third seeds from Bowdoin in the second round.

The Judges' three other doubles tandems also won their first-round matches before falling to seeded opponents in the second round. Seniors Simon Kauppila (Chesterfield, Mo. / Marquette H.S.) and Hunter Levine (Weston, Fla. / Cypress Bay) won 8-3 over a team from Trinity, while junior Chen Liang (Shanghai, China / Shanghai Pinghe School) and first-year Jack Goldstein (Chicago, Ill. / Lane Tech) bageled Endicott, 8-0, in their first match. A first-year pairing of Haidyn Green (Washington, D.C. / Georgetown Day School) and Alex Merson (Palisades Park, N.J. / Tenafly) were 8-1 winners over foes from Connecticut College.

While Brandeis did not have any other singles winners in the first round, Kauppila and Merson both went to three sets with their opponents, two of only three three-setters in the first round of the tournament.

The Judges close out the fall season next weekend at the MIT Invitational.
