Men finish seventh at '09 UAA championships

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Brandeis University men's track and field team competed at the 2009 University Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend held at Carnegie Mellon.  The Judges had six All-UAA performances at the event as they finished in seventh place with 35 points.

      The All-UAA individual performances for the Judges came from sophomore Paul Norton (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) and senior Mark Edwards (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield) who both placed third in their respective events.  Norton finished the 5000-meter run with a final time of 15:30.72.  Edwards competed in the javelin event where his best throw was a distance of 52.04 meters (170.9 feet). 

      The other All-UAA performers came in the 4x800-meter relay.  The relay team of senior Mike Stone (E. Falmouth, Mass./Falmouth), rookie Chris Brown (No. Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford), rookie Marc Boutin (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy), and senior Matt Jennings (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) produced the Judges only second-place finish as they finished with a time of 7:47.91 while the champions finished with a time of 7:47.19.  Jennings, Boutin, and Stone also competed in the 1500-meter run where they combined to pick up eight points for Brandeis.  Jennings finished fourth with a time of 3:58.14.  Stone finished in seventh place (4:00.91), while Boutin finished in eighth (4:01.88).

      Edwards teamed up with rookies Steve Melnik (Durham, Conn./Coginchaug Regional), Mingken Lin (Belmont, Mass./Belmont) and Stanley Ye (Boxborough, Mass./Acton-Boxborough) in the 4x100 meter relay.  They finished in sixth place with a time of 45.81 seconds and earned the Judges three points. 

Junior Aaron Udel (Dalton, Mass./Waconah Regional) picked up a point for the Judges as he finished in eighth place in the 800-meter run with a finals time of 2:02.27.
